Years ago bricks were a popular method of paving city streets and after being in place for a while, the bricks developed an interesting texture as ruts and grooves appeared from the constant abuse by carriage wheels. Eventually rather than being removed, the bricks were often just paved over. Occasionally, a blast from the past appears as the deteriorating pavement gives way to the bricks hiding below.
